Company overview

Debios Diagnostics is a Spanish in vitro diagnostics company founded in 2023 and based in Badalona, Catalonia. A spin-off of the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute, or IGTP, it is led by CEO Joan Grasas and develops non-invasive diagnostic tools for kidney and genitourinary disease.

Its lead FIBROKIT programme uses urinary vitronectin as a biomarker of renal fibrosis. Development covers two complementary formats: FIBROKIT-ELISA for quantitative laboratory testing and FIBROKIT-LF, a rapid-test format intended to support more frequent monitoring, potentially outside the hospital.

Debios and IGTP are jointly advancing the PROMORFI project through 2028, including biomarker validation and a prospective clinical study. The programme is intended to evaluate clinical usefulness and future care pathways; home monitoring and broader chronic-kidney-disease applications remain development objectives.

Summary

The PROMORFI programme is designed to develop and clinically validate FIBROKIT in chronic kidney disease, including biomarker validation in patient cohorts and a prospective clinical trial. IGTP identifies laboratory ELISA and rapid-test formats as complementary development pathways. [4]

The rapid-test format’s proposed use for home or remote monitoring is a future application. The clinical programme should not be read as authorization for patient self-testing or as proof that FIBROKIT can replace biopsy across all kidney-disease settings. [4]
